Last full day of sightseeing in Budapest and I missed out on a biggie.  Fiercely regretting that I got rid of my bathing suit in Italy.  I missed out on a visit to a Turkish bath today because of it.  While I could have rented a suit, their bikinis were not quite my style (could you imagine? wait don't imagine, bad picture in your head).  My friend Linda went and said it was fantastic.  Shoulda, woulda, coulda.

So while she was bathing, I checked out a few sights.  I saw a war memorial, castle, church and memorial for the unsuccessful revolution in the 50's.  The war memorial was pretty cool but the other stuff was just so-so.  After collecting a refreshed Linda, we headed to the House of Terror.  Sounds kinda creepy, like it should be reserved for Halloween, right?  Not the case.  The museum tells the history of the horror of living through the 2 regimes (Nazi & Soviet) and is a memorial to all the victims.  Let me tell you, BEST MUSEUM in Budapest in my opinion.  It was so well done.  Visually it was stunning. The layout flowed, there was video after video of personal accounts.  We spent well over an hour and couple have spent more.  It left you with a similar feeling after visiting Auschwitz- heavy hearted, so aghast that such cruelty could exist.  No pictures allowed but you can check it out:
http://www.terrorhaza.hu/en/museum/about_us.html     I bought a book about the exhibits if anyone would like to borrow it.

Then, to lighten the mood, we had lunch in the Octogan- which was filled with American style restaurants.  So we ate at Burger King : )   (Julie you can stop rolling your eyes at me!) It's very touristy of me, I know but I think it's fun to see what they have on the menu.

After an unsuccessful search for the postal museum (it got moved we discovered after asking) we decided to head back the market.  Unfortunately for us we got there at 2:40 and it closed at 3, which meant the vendors were putting this away at 2:45.  My leather purse purchase just wasn't meant to be : )

Tomorrow we head to Amsterdam.  I've had a great time in Budapest-highly recommend it- but I'm looking forward to the next part of the adventure!

Our home during the stay was just a few doors down from the Astoria stop.  So we were always looking for Deli : )   On another line, we headed towards Mexico a lot : )

 Hero's Square (war memorial)

 A view of the castle.

Gate to the castle- I couldn't figure out how to get in the castle itself.  Either I missed it, or it wasn't possible.

Church inside the castel's gate.

Memorial for the revoulation in the 50s.  It starts of rusty and separated but as it's united it's strong.

The outside of the House of Terror (no pics iniside, how I wish there were!)

On a much lighter note, me and my whopper : )
