Today's plans for taking a cable car up the Alps was disappointingly canceled :( The fog and expected rain made the cable cars not run in the morning. That's twice that our mountain trips have been canceled because of weather, so we've only been able to see them from afar. Instead we went to a beekeeping museum. The enthusiastic museum guide gave us an unexpected tour and history of beekeeping in Slovenia. There was much to hear about ( a bit more than I needed to know). Slovenia has a long history of beekeeping and they export thousands of them a year. Interestingly enough the bees here aren't yellow and black (those are Italian she said). The bees here are grey and black and are gentle (she said keepers don't need any protective gear). To distinguish between different bee houses, owners would paint on the wooden panels and the paintings were quite detailed! After our bee schooling, we headed to Lake Bled. It's a resort town with a church on an island and a castle on the rocks. We just had time for lunch, pictures and a taste of their famous Cream Cake. I had chocoate and it was FABOULOUS! We got to the hotel with plenty of time for people to pack. Most of the group leaves tomorrow and then 4 of us head out to travel more before meeting up with the other group in July. Everyone commented on how fast these 2 weeks have gone. We've seen so much but it seems like we just started. Nice group of people and meticulous planning made the first part of my travels a wonderful adventure.

The little cage they use when transferring the Queen Bee. They leave her in it after moving her so the other bees can adapt to her (and not attack and kill her). The Queen bee can live for 4 years. The other bees typically live 4-6 weeks.
Some of the painted panels from the bee houses.
This is an interesting, artistic, bee house.
Church in Lake Bled
Interesting flower
First dinner w/ the castle in the background (spaghetti for me, John Dory fish for the more adventurous)
Then yummy cream cake dessert.
