I'm surprised on how crowded Split Croatia is.  I was hoping it would be an undiscovered gem like Corsica last year with few tourists and wonderful sights.  It's a very popular place! I guess I can't really complain about all the tourists, since I am one.

I'm glad we had a tour with a local guide this morning.  She took us to some great places and had a wealth of background knowledge on the town, history and buildings.  A lot of our time was spent seeing different parts of a Roman palace built by Diocletian.  He had it built for his retirement. We saw the cellar (where Game of Thrones was taped last season apparently for those of you who watch it).  We also saw the bapistry, cathedral and outer walls that remain.  Some parts have had to be restored because of WWII.  The shell of the walls remain but it isn't a fully intact palace that can be walked through room by room (mostly because it was abandoned and not maintained through the years).  The afternoon was for wandering the streets and shopping.  After a brief rest for the feet, we headed back out for dinner and I was able to get some better pictures- without so many people in them :)

This is a square that was built with Venitian influence.  It was modeled after St. Mark's Square in Venice by a ruler of that decent.

This is the music hall.  I used the fun color option on my camera to make the yellow standout.  The yellow stands for the fact that it was built during the Hamburg reign.

When I saw this statue on a building I imagined him saying "lalalalalal" and he kinda is.  The building was a sulfer spa (?) where people would go to relax and heal but it is across from the noisy/busy fish market, so he really is kinda saying what I thought :)

This is the main enterance to the Roman palace.

This is the bell tower (as seen through the marble columns Diocletian had brought from his conquests in Egypt).

Local "show" to welcome the tourists.

Inside the catherdral.  Notice that the crucifix is not a cross but a made to look like a branch.

The altar

Having fun with some pretend soliders.

He said attack, so I played the part :)  Julie not so much :0
