Last night's stormy weather carried over to today, much to our dismay. We've been spoiled the last few years with great (although hot) weather. We were suppossed to take a cable car up to get a view of Dubrovnik below but the view would not have been so wonderous through the rain and mist so alas we had to go with plan B :( We went into Dubrovnik again and saw a couple of Orthodox churches and 2 monestaries- 1 for the wealthy to attend mass at and one for the lower class to attend mass. They are still in use so we were only allowed access to the lower level where some paintings, vestments, chalices and other religious items were on display (no pictures allowed). After that we loaded on the bus and headed for Metkovic. On the suggestion of our bus driver (not our beloved Sylvain but a local one) we stopped at a town called Ston that had this huge, forever long wall built into the mountains above. We didn't hike up it in the rain but it was quite impressive from below. We did stop for our afternoon drink, so the stop was not for naught. The men reported that the urinal in the bathroom at the bar provided an extra challenge since it was located on a side wall and they had to stand diagonal to it. Quite entertaining to hear them talk about it! Glad to be at the hotel and out of my wet shoes. I need to practice holding my umbrella and camera, while zooming in. I expect to have to do that a lot in Scotland and I proved not very successful at it today. My hair kept getting caught in the umbrella. Ouch!
Different entrance to Dubrovnik
View of the cloister from 1 monastery.
Having fun with color options on camera....I choose to highlight the yellow roses.
Detail from a door heading.
View through the arches of the cloister to the fountain and bell tower.
Part of the wall- odd that it goes down, then up again (don't mind the rain spot in the middle)
Closer view of the wall....
A church heavily damaged by the earthquake but surrounded by beautiful blooms.
