Spoiled.....so spoiled
We began our bus tour and we were reminded how lucky we usually are. So this is how others travel :). We have been soooo spoiled. On Thursday morning we began our bus tour of Northern Greece. Unfortunately we have a bus full of people we joined (perfectly nice group of people including a large group of Aussies!) We usually have a bus to ourself and can spread out. We don't have to wait for anyone. We all are on the same page. Such problems I have.........On Thursday we headed towards Olympia stopping first to see the Theater of Epidavros, which is famous for it's acoustics. Climbed all the way to the top of that sucker for a beet red faced picture :). Our guide is super knowledgable about all things ancient Greek. It's hard to remember it at the end of the hot day. It's all very interesting when I'm listening and I'm learnging a ton of new info. Apparently I never took any classes on Greek Mythology or ancient history because it's like I'm hearing it all for the first time. Unfortunately, I'm just not retaining it. Then we drove on to Mycenae. There we visited an archeologist site to see the Lion's Gate. Not a ton remains but the HUGE arch for the entry to the city remains as does some of the wall that was obviously good as a defense because of the size of the rocks. Some were bigger than me! There were many gates that the enemy would have to breech if they wanted to enter. If my memory serves from our guide George's talk, then no one got through. If anyone got close, they would pour boiling water on them. To get to our hotel in Olympia, we had a 2 hour drive. I'm pretty sure the lull of the bus had me nodding off but it wasn't drool forming, so it could be that deep of a sleep. Treated myself to a dip in the awesome pool as a reward for making it through a hot day.
