Road trip!!!!!!!

We started our journey today and covered a lot ground on our trip from Houston to Santa Cruz. With the car packed to the gills we headed out and passed a lot of time catching up and then we started a book on tape.  First part of the drive was eh but when we got closer to the Western side of Texas the scenery picked up.  I would have never guessed that kind of terrain would have been in Texas! Hard taking pictures through the windshield and door window but lots of hills covered in vegetation.  Some of the road was obviously part of a mountain/hill previously.  They used dynamite in the middle to make way for the roads and left a wall of rock on either side.  Learned today that if the car tells you how many more miles you can drive- 0 doesn't mean 0. Thankfully for us that was the case because we were on 0 miles left and no gas station in sight.  Luckily my friend's husband found the nearest one for us and we found it just in time.  Staying just outside of El Paso tonight and then headed towards New Mexico and Arizona tomorrow.  Hope to make it into California.
